Event - Christmas Events

December 2014

Scalford School has been very busy during the month of December with lots of community events leading up to Christmas.

It began with our Christingle Service which was lead by Base 3. We joined the children who attend Scalford Pre-School, in a joint service. Scalford Chapel was full to overflowing with Parents, Grandparents and Friends as they watched the lights dim and the Christingle candles lit.

Base 2 and 3 visited Melton Town Centre to sing and entertain shoppers as part of the ‘Melton Christmas Light Switch on’. The children sang their hearts out and were voted ‘the most vocal school of the day!’

Our Christmas service ‘Simply a Nativity’ was a wonderful whole school creation – written by the children in Base 3, narrated by Base 2 and performed beautifully by Base 1. The ‘Star’ of the show literally was the ‘Star’ of the show.

The children also entertained the senior residents of the village as they gathered for a special Christmas lunch at the Methodist Chapel. They sang well known carols as well as a few new additions, which were well received by all.

The crib service held in Goadby Marwood Church was the setting for the next Christmas event, with a magnificent turn out. Miss Hubbard and Mrs Tomkinson (aka Santa!) joined the children in leading this very special service.

25 children visited the residents at Scalford Court nursing home to sing to them as part of their festivities. The audience joined in and were very complimentary about the children’s singing and how well-mannered and behaved they were. It was a delight to brighten up their day and we hope to visit again next year.

And finally, as a thank you to the people in the community, an extended invitation was given to parents and friends who help in and around school, to join us for mince pies and tea in church whilst the children sang their favourite carols. This was a lovely end to what has been a very busy and exciting term for everyone at Scalford School.
