FOSS - Friends of Scalford School
Cake raffle organised by FOSS.
The Friends of Scalford School is a committee comprising parents and teachers, whose main aim is to provide the children from the school with extra activities and treats that would not be available to them through school funds.
This is achieved by various fundraising methods, including refreshments at school events, cake raffles and large scale family events.
All money raised is used for the benefit of the children in school and in the community of which they are part.
Fundraising has enabled the children to take part in several workshops to complement their learning and extras such as planters in the playground, picnic mats and bibles. FOSS's greatest achievement to date has been replacing the old playground equipment at the village hall, which the children use on a daily basis, to provide brand new play equipment.
FOSS would not be able to achieve its aims without the hardworking, dedicated committee and the generosity of the parents and local community.
Meetings are held approximately every two months, where all are welcome to attend to discuss future fundraising activities and how best the monies raised are spent.

Autumn 2013/Spring 2014
This year saw the launch of the highly successful school discos. Thanks to DJs Ed Chester and Jon Riley’s skills, two thirds of the children from school danced the night away, enjoying treats from the tuck shop and a mountain of hotdogs.
FOSS supported school by providing refreshments for the Christmas Nativity, which was held in church after the recent refurbishments. A truly magical evening watching the Christmas story in our wonderful church.
The weekly cake raffle continues to thrive, and it looks as if we are on target to raise in excess of £600 for this school year. We also held a raffle for a Mother’s Day hamper, which raised an additional £38.50.
FOSS is also excited by the relaunch of the 100 club from May 2014, numbers are currently on sale.
All of the above fundraising has meant that we have been able to continue to fund the transport for the Ernest Cook Trust outdoor learning days for all the children in school to enjoy. Base 3 enjoyed their First Aid training by St Johns Ambulance in school, which has given them the basics of a lifelong skill. The whole school took part in a special day to celebrate Chinese New Year - they were taught a dragon dance, dressed up in authentic clothes, ate Chinese food and discovered traditions of living in China. We also continue to fund the all-important Christmas party for the whole school.
Other exciting events FOSS are contributing towards this year are the Year 6 trip to London to see a show, with an additional £100 for them to spend whilst there, and a whole school trip to the theatre in September.
FOSS is not just about fund raising, but also about bringing families and the community together with fun events.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this successful year!
Autumn Term 2012
It has been a busy exciting Autumn Term for FOSS. On December 9th we held our annual Christmas Fayre. The children from school did some handbell ringing and children at the Fayre were able to enjoy a visit from Santa Claus. Thank you to everyone who attended and those who booked a stall. Also, thank you to everyone who volunteered to help. Altogether, £220.20 was raised by the event.
FOSS have also been supporting the school by providing refreshments and a raffle at the school production of a Creepy Crawly Christmas. Thank you to everyone who bought tickets and donated prizes to FOSS. From these events we raised £245! FOSS have also covered the costs of every child having a Christmas lunch. This is something that FOSS contribute to each year and it is lovely for all the children and staff to enjoy a meal together.
The next FOSS meeting will be on January 28th 2013, starting at 7.30pm, at Scalford School. We are happy to welcome new members, if you would like to join us.
Summer Term 2012
The Summer Term has been full of exciting events. FOSS provided refreshments and ice lollies at Sports Day, which were a welcome relief in the gloriously sunny weather.
We have been delighted by the support at the Big Night Out in June and made £1300. Thank you to everyone who attended.
We have also now raised over £2000 from our cake raffle over the years – a great achievement and we look forward to seeing this amount continue to grow.
